Moonshots are ambitious research swings at real, hard problems. This year, we're focusing on four areas where AI can make a species-level difference: civic discourse, accelerating science, frontline healthcare, and workforce reskilling.

We'll award two $250K grants in each area. Winning teams will have six months to deliver:

• A vision paper that defines the Moonshot
• A benchmark and inducement prize others can build on
• An open-source proof of concept
• A proposal for a $10M+ 3-5 year research lab that can scale the work

We plan to fund 1 to 4 research centers by the end of 2026. All grants will be unrestricted, with selections made by a committee of leaders from both academia and industry.

System Requirements

• Lead PI + 2-4 co-PIs
• Lead PI must be permanent research faculty affiliation with CS program in U.S. or Canada
• Track record of impact (awards, OSS projects, startups, publications)
• 4-page proposal in CACM format
